UNC Charlotte juried art show
At Green Goats and Gardens Festival, April 28, 2012
The Art Show at GGG staff strives to provide a professional exhibition space and urges students to present their artwork professionally as well. The work must conform to the following standards. Artwork will not be eligible for exhibit or competition if improperly presented or misrepresentative.

Submission Application deadline:

Judging complete by: April 6, 2012
Exhibit Gallery Reception: April 19, 2012 - 5:30 to 7 pm. Winners will be announced at 6:30 pm.
Eligibility: Artwork must be by UNC Charlotte Art and Architecture students (current full- and part-time students as well as December 2011 graduates).
Description of Contest: A juried selection of environmentally concerned work.
Criteria: Artwork must show by concept, message, method, or material concern for the environment. (i.e. use of reused or recycled materials or an environmental message) Work must be original in concept and design and created by the artist. No commercially produced or reproduced artwork will be accepted.
Access to scrap materials: Students will have access to a free supply of scrap materials provided by Holden Properties. Please contact Linda Holden at 704- 332-5655 for additional information.
Gallery Space: The UNCC student curating committee will be responsible for installing all artwork in the Environmental Way gallery space.
Outdoor space: Artists wishing to use outdoor space should consult with the gallery.
All artwork must be display ready as follows:
• Two-dimensional work must be suitably framed (clip frames not allowed) and under glass or Plexiglas when appropriate (i.e. hooks, wired, or any other special
• All wall and suspended work must be equipped with a secure wire hanging system.
• All work must be equipped for safe installation; gallery personnel will determine safety.
• Works considered to be too fragile for handling by gallery personnel will require the artist to be involved in the installation. Otherwise it will not be accepted.
• The gallery space will not supply framing, hardware or wire.
• Paintings must be dry.
• When two- or three-dimensional work is unusually heavy or difficult to handle, timely assistance may be required of the artist.
• Artists whose works require electrical outlets or other special considerations should consult with gallery prior to application.
• All work delivered to the gallery must have the following information affixed to the non-viewing side of artwork:
1. Your name
2. Address, phone number and email
3. Title of the work, medium and price. Be specific with medium descriptions (e.g., oil on hardboard or canvas, not oil; oil pastel on paper, not pastel; etc.)
Date Artwork must be on site: Monday, April 16th, by 5 PM
Transportation: It is the student's responsibility to transport all artwork to the site. Some considerations will be permitted for help in transporting. Submit your request to: Michael Haag, UNCC Student Coordinator - mjhaag@uncc.edu
1st Place Award: $100
2nd Place: $75
3rd Place: $50
Environmental Way Gallery Selection: $525 (purchase price). This special award will allow the recipient to sell their work to Environmental Way to be part of their permanent environmental art collection.
Liability: All work will be handled with care, but pieces submitted for exhibition are at the artist's risk. In the event of damage or theft, Environmental Way and University City Partners will not be held liable.
Sale of artwork: Students may sell their work to attendees of the exhibit opening (April 19) and through the Green Goats and Gardens festival (April 28). Any purchases are strictly between the artist and the buyer. The Art Show at GGG does not charge any handling/brokering fee nor will be involved in any transaction of the sale of any artwork.
Additional display opportunities: Students may be asked to display their work at various businesses around University City 1 week prior to the exhibit opening on April 16th as part of the marketing campaign for the exhibit and the Green Goats and Gardens festival. You will be notified in advance if you are selected.
Artwork retrieval: Work must be picked up after contest and festival by 5 PM, May 15th, 2012.
